Hi Everyone, Need some help identifying this error if is mint or post mint damage as I haven't seen this one before. It looks like the letters in In God We Trust have been pushed down away away from the rim and you can see the old lettering outlines. If help is appreciated. Regards Oddity.
first, always take pics straight down, angled shots dont work... your cent looks like its a split plating issue common on plated lincolns.
Try posting cropped photos that only show the coin and post them FULL IMAGE, not thumbnail. Your coin is showing die wear (DDD) and as it becomes worn, the devices allow metal to go beyond the area and spread. Not unusual or of any added value.
The downside is that the magnification required for close ups is a pain to procure using my tablet unfortunately. These new pics are the best I can get. Thanks again for the info. I dont post as thumbnail so unsure why its changing it.
And error is only during the minting process never post mint. So you wouldn't call a post mint damaged coin a mint error
Depends if you knew what it was though, Without being pedantic with a pertinence for the grammatical. As it was I didnt know if it was even an error or just damage however if you saying that all mint damage is an error and all post mint damage is classed as post mint that's fine. Thanks for the replies, first time I've come across this.
