I won this a couple of days ago, seeing examples in MS-60 are going for 80-100 dollars, (those have patinated surfaces) I think this one is a beauty. I got this for just under $20... Should I have it graded? I don't want to sell it right away, but I want to prevent any further damage. These are the photos online. Kinda hard to tell from the pics, but it almost looks like there are some cleaning hairlines on the lower reverse around the date and denomination.

Hard to say anything definite from the pictures. Look it over good when you get it.

Interesting to me though....$100? I thought these were fairly common with nice looking BU's available. Gonna have to look at mine.

I can’t tell that it’s UNC from those pictures. Looks more AU

Honestly, I don't think you'd get the value out of it you'd put in by slabbing it. I say leave as is.

I agree that it most likely will get a Circ grade. But hey the TPG's like to call these 62-64 in todays market.

A lot of these have been cleaned, and a few angles look like there could be some hairlines already. It's a popular coin and truly nice ones aren't super common. NGC has 3 in 65, nothing higher, and PCGS only 2 (assuming none are crossed over that's only about 1% of the slabbed population, using very rounded numbers).

Aside from what looks like hairlines, the hits on the cheek, make me doubt it could be that nice.

The design is a soft one, so compare yours in hand carefully to any slabbed photos you can find. That can help with the AU vs. BU as well. The hair and the wheat tend to show it on the obverse. But the hair can be a bit weakly struck too IIRC.

In any case, it's a lovely coin design, but this coin is likely more suitable for an airtite than a slab. Slabbing costs would likely exceed any return by having it in a slab. That said, I have been known to have literal pocket change slabbed just to have a series in hand :D. Nothing wrong with slabbing it if you want it in one.

If you want a slabbed one, get one already slabbed......these latvian crowns aren't very expensive at all.
