Yes it’s in a nnc holder. Bought 15/20 years ago. From Centsles on eBay. I just want to make sure it’s the real deal.
If it's not real it's not going to grade. These coins go for thousands of dollars. So, if you got it and it was a great deal, it's not going to be real. If you paid thousands of dollars, why would you do that with a coin that has not be certified as genuine, and you don't know the difference? NNC may not be a quality grader. Are they still in business? Wait for experts on this series to give their opinions. You can't buy this coin without it first having been sent to either NGC, PCGS, ANACS or ICG. And then AFTER it comes back real, it would be safer to buy. As for condition. It looks pretty good. It's grainy, but if it's genuine, I would be XF. The denticles on the reverse right side is an issue. But maybe it is slightly MAD. Experts here would know what's going on with this coin.
It looks like a cast copy to me. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we have negative reports about *Centsles* on these forums some years ago? ~ Chris
I did a short search of this guy, It seems like he owns NNC. Also he never details a coin and is usually off by at least 4 grades when he calls them MS. you might do your own search and if you can still return the coin then do. PS It seems that once in a blue moon, he does get it close but rarely.
Thanks, Not bad you take counterfeit coins put them in a holder and auction them off as authentic. No Description here!
It’s almost certainly real, just very likely from a details slab. I’ve yet to hear of him selling counterfeits
Yes he is reputed to know his stuff. On the other hand, the "grades" he puts on his slabs are worse than useless.
Definitely not an expert especially on this series but from looking at nearly every example on PCGS, the first A in America has a die line within which is not present on the OP example. I am sure there was more than 1 reverse die used with roughly 43k minted. I also feel like I see several pimples scattered throughout this coin. This coupled with the strange wear (hair looked worked on or not evenly worn given the high points) has me questioning authenticity. edit - it appears the reverses with the die line in the A are from the off centered strike and the OP is a centered strike so that cannot be indicative determination of authenticity.
Here is the NGC certified coin that is in my collection. I don't like the coin in the OP because of the pitting in the fields on both sides. I fear that it is a cast copy. For that reason I would not buy it raw with an eye toward slabbing it to increase my return on a re-sell. Buying a coin like this that has been certified by a "third world grading company" is the same as buying it raw.
