This guy hypes this as a BU proof 64 IHC. What do you think? http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-1905-Gem-BU-Proof-64-RB-Indian-Head-Cent_W0QQitemZ150290307048QQihZ005QQcategoryZ41086QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem With the marks on the cheek I can't see it being a 64 anything. Bruce
I'm not an expert (not really even a novice, lol), but it looks polished to me, not a proof. JMO Phoenix
That coin is so bad that I could not force myself to look at it long enough to even make a determination about its authenticity much less grade. That seller doesn't deserve my attention or that of any other serious coin collector.
Well the rims do look nice and square at the top which is all I could really see. But I agree it has been polished or something.
Bad bad nicks on the face, in the hair behind the eye and a long scratch from the nose to the N in UNITED, and all that just on the front. The coin is no better than a 60. The problem here is the side lighting with what I think is a tinted bulb. Not tinted much, but one of those darker type yellowish lights as opposed to an incandescent bulb that mimics sunlight or a florescent bulb. I believe this is being used to cover up the the slightly pinkish look of a cleaning and retoning. This all just my opinion, but I have seen it happen before.
It may be a proof but if it is its an impaired one , looks like it was cleaned and polished , don't buy . rzage
The price is almost what one would expect to pay for the problem coin if it is a proof with 2 days to go. I would cross it off my watch list. Iwould much rather buy this which is similar but certified http://cgi.ebay.com/1901-Indian-Head-Cent-NGC-PR62-RB-Proof-Red-Brown_W0QQitemZ300254367122QQihZ020QQcategoryZ41086QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem or even go higher than normal for one like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/1903-P-Indian-Head-Cent-Exceptional-PF-PROOF-PR-COLOR_W0QQitemZ200252434324QQihZ010QQcategoryZ41086QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem even though I hope it is just a slip of the tongue saying it will grade MS :goof: Just my preferences.
