Nice coin. When the dies strike without a coin in the chamber part of the obverse die is transferred to the reverse die and visa versa. The subsequent coins to be struck will show these marks (die clash marks).
why didnt pcgs designate a error coin or is it to insignificant to label as an error? And in advance thanks for all the help for everyone
Looks like the typical PCGS AU 62. Looks like a VAM of some type, not an "error" per-se. Hopefully one of the VAM guys will come along and help with the value -- not my area....Mike
I don't think this coin is a VAM. The clashed die is not enough and the seller is very good at looking up vams.
I buy from this seller every now & then. I like his coins. His prices are decent and he's good at pointing out clashes and doubling (and showing good pics of them). You can go here: http://www.vamworld.com/ to look Morgans & Peace dollars up, check to see if they are attributed VAMs or just close to being one.I've learned quite a bit on that site. What is a VAM? http://www.vamworld.com/VAM The TPGs will add the attribute to the tag but they want $$ to do so.
Here a couple of pics of the morgan Silver dollar. Its A very nice coin. there not the best pic since they come of my phone but you def can see the luster of the coin in the pics Enjoy Bob
G'Day mate,There is more than clash marks on the coin and with the doubling I would submit it for a VAM number,I did look at VAM world but couldn't find a match sorry I'm not much help so if it is a VAM the graders should know which one it is,regards Harry
Every Morgan or Peace dollar has a VAM number, even the most common die pair. It is a nice coin, and I would not reslab unless you become convinced it is a rarer VAM, such as on the Top 100, Top 50, or HOT 40 VAM list. If it is there, and you want to sell it, then re-slab. If you plan to keep it no matter, put the vam number on a little label and attach it to the current slab. To conclude what VAM it is, you need to use a scope or loupe and compare the points with the Vamworld listings, or pay a TPG to grade and VAM it. I am uncertain about the doubling you see. With out better views, it looks more like "machine" doubling. There is a sticky in the error subforum section about this type of doubling if it is unfamiliar to you. Nice coin for the price! Jim
"Every Morgan or Peace dollar has a VAM number" Not true. From vamworld"s site. "The goal of the VAM system is to number and catalog every known die variety by date and mint mark. To this end, every Morgan dollar in existence is either already a VAM or should be a VAM. This is a continuous process, and new varieties are continually discovered and added to the list" Your coin may or may not have a vam number. Don't confuse coin varieties with die varieties. A clashed die in itself doesn't constitute a vam number.
