    Hi all,

I am about to finish The 50 state quarter P/D set (7 coins to complete), and the Westward Journey Nickel Series (2 coins to complete). I hope i could finish them by the end of the year.

My question is; What next ?
I was thinking Lincoln cents. I need your opinion please taking in consideration that i live in Egypt and that i am interested to collect every single date and mint.

    Would that be possible ?
Am i gonna pay a lot of money ?
If you recommend Lincoln cents, what album should i purchase that has holes for this collection ?

    Thanks

The primary factor is- what condition do you want the Lincoln Cents in ? If you want them all in the MS Range it could be many thousands of dollars.

Also if you are looking for every doubled die and variety it will be even more costly. Because your in Egypt (and i'm jealous, I have to go there someday...) beware of counterfeits. Consider purchasing some of the key dates certified or slabbed. Perhaps you could find a reputable coin dealer that ships to your location online. I can reccomend one if you like. Airtight holders are the best for lincolns especially if you are in a humid climate. Keep in mind copper is very suceptable to corrosion. Whitman and dansco make coin holders.

sometimes people sell partial lincoln collections on e-bay or online at a reasonable price.

If you ignore the doubled die's and varietys, and are looking for mostly raw coins in the VF range it would be much less money.

    Good luck!!!

A suggestion: If you want something a bit less ambitious, you could try Jefferson Nickels. The 1950-D is the key coin in the set but is a lot less than the scarce Lincolns.

As a young collector, after I hit the price barrier on the Lincolns, I went to Jeffersons and had little trouble completing the set.

Another vote for the Jefferson Nickels. The Roosevelt dimes are another one that is relatively easy to complete and are often overlooked. The silver dimes will add a little premium to the coins, but shouldn't set you back too much compared to some of the rarer Lincolns. I'm only two dimes away from completing my set (three if you count the 2008D).

You should collect whatever you like but Jefferson Nickels, Roosevelt dimes and Kennedy Halves are fairly cheep sets. If you limit Lincolns to just the memorial Cents, that’s an easy set too.

My first set was a 1965-1985 Roosevelt dimes.

I agree. The Jeffersons, and the Kennedys, were the easiest sets for me to complete.

For the most part, a Lincoln set should be pretty easy and affordable, especially with the weak dollar, to assemble, minus the key dates, of course. Even in higher grades most of the series is reasonable...for now. Of course, seeing as you're in Egypt, that may pose a problem unless you find somewhere that ships worldwide for a reasonable rate. I say go for it. A challenge is always fun.

You should try a lincoln circulated set. Most are fairly easy to find if you do some looking around and the keys are availible at just about any coin website. You can also keep upgrading as you go along through the years. I always enjoy upgrading my collection especially when the upgrade comes from pocket change. The only problem that I could forsee is that with the upcoming 100 year anniversery of the coin I expect that even some of the semi-key coins will have a substancial rise in price in the next year.

I think you should collect whatever interests you the most!

That said, I would strongly suggest Dansco albums to store your coins.

I've seen some complete sets of Jefferson, and I must say I do like them. Thinking about starting my own set. The set will keep you active in searching for coins, and it shouldn't break the bank account. Also consider Kennedy halves. I have done a set of franklins and loved every minute of collecting them. You'll pay just under $100 for a nice MS 1949 S. Look at dimes also. Hey, if you have all of the statehood quarters start on the others, the silver ones 32-64 or the clad, (much cheaper) from 65 on.

I would tell you as you being a beginning collector of U.S. coins, pick a series thats inexpensive yet attractive to you. There are many U.S. coin series out there thats beautiful and wont break the bank for you. As its already been mentioned, Franklin Halves are fun to collect and inexpensive, Jefferson nickels are a great choice also as are Roosevelt Dimes, Washington Quarters and Kennedy Halves. Dont jump into the Lincoln Cent series without reading up on them first, just my honest opinion.

Don't forget Eisenhower Dollars , they are large Crown sized coins that are very reasonable in the lower MS grades , if you go AU you can get most for a couple of dollars US . Good luck .

I think the set that is moving up in price the fastest is Lincoln cents. To complete Lincoln's is not cheap, so I would go with, as others have said, Franklin's, Jeffersons, Roosevelt's, Ike's or Kennedy's. How can you be EG collector, when I am E.G.

Jefferson Nickels all the way. They are very versatile. If you want a high grade affordable set, you can get it. If you want toned coins, you can get em. If you want expensive (Top Pop FS) you can get that also. There are a number of errors and varieties to collect as well. But the best part about Jefferson Nickels is that wonderful subset, the war nickels. Here is a photo of my duplicate set.

It looks like most of you have recommended these two sets
    Lincoln Memorial 1959-present
    Jefferson Nickels 1938-present
So, what album do you recommend for this collection ?

If you want a nice presentation here are three albums that should be considered. Whitman Classic, Dansco or Intercept Shield. There are some others that may be mentioned here by other members but these seem to be the most popular. Some may recommend Airtite holders, especially if you're putting together a high grade set. There are albums made to house Airtites also.
