I just found this coin in my father in law's bag of old American and Canadian coins. What do you make of this? It looks like a genuine error to me. thank you.
You can't strike one side of a coin. Someone took some kind of tool and smoothed/ground out that side. It's damage.
Okay, thanks. I would have expected file marks or sanding marks or lines. It seems so smooth, other than obvious wear. It's not thin, I don't see any signs of holding it in a clamp, or anything. I do not have a scale to weigh it, but will bring it to work Monday and weigh it. Someone must've been bored and had nothing better to do many years ago! Thanks everyone.
