I figured I would share a picture of an old English token that I won recently in the WINS auction. I don't have it in hand quite yet, but I have the photo from the auction. Enjoy!
Nice token....I have been thinking about starting up a token collection myself...but then I know nothing about them and still know too little about coins so prolly won't stainless
Hi there Smaugy, I don't usually check into this forum... but am sure glad I did today! That is one nice token. Do I see a tudor rose above 'Kings'? Can you tell us a bit more about this particular piece? Thanks, jeankay
Oh, for art thou sliding down a slippery slope by endeavouring forth with the acquisitions of 17th century tokens:thumb: I have about 20 or so of them here: http://www.geocities.com/scottishmoney/17thtokens/17th.html
You might find this link interesting, the Rose is apparently a mint mark http://www.britishfarthings.com/Tokens/17th-Century/Norfolk/Norfolk.html
Hey again Smaugy, De Orc and Scottish money... I always say, 'one should learn something new everyday'. Thanks so much for making me adventure into the history of the countries where many of my ancestors originated. This might be one way for me to find out more about them. Your posts, expertise, advice, and willingness to share, is greatly appreciated by myself and many others who venture into CT. Oh, and great tokens, too!! jeankay
Well I have to chuckle, I bought this because my wife saw it and liked it. Now that I have the above link, indeed this may be a very slippery slope that I am already heading down at full speed. Once I get caught up with the coin show in Dunmore, PA on the 20-21st of Sept and a couple more note purchases from a friend of mine, I may start to look for a few of these and try to find out more about them. Oh, well......one more thing on my numismatic list for my small spending budget. Smaugy.....
