I have this coin from the Austria-Habsburg era. 8florin gold dated 1892. It is listed as a re-strike. What is it and what is the reason for it.

"Restrike" usually means that a coin was minted from original dies, but at a later date than the original striking. In your specific case, your 1892-dated coin was struck sometime after 1892.

The 8 florin was for international trade, under the Latin Monetary Union system. It was valued at 20 francs. 1892 is the last year it was struck, and so a popular year for them to restrike.
