I thought ANA is a technical grade because they grade each coin the same , where as PCGS was a market grade because it took in things like what coins are well struck or weakly struck , eye apeal . So is it the opposite ANA is Market , PCGS technical ?:headbang:

I have said it many times, but people tend to read it and then forget it because they have preconceived notions. The ANA grading standards, and all TPG grading standards are based on the market grading system.

The ANA dropped technical grading in 1986 and has used the market grading system ever since. Technical grading has not been used, by anybody except private individuals, since 1986.

As for the bit about being weakly struck, allowances for a weak strike are used in both the technical grading system and the market grading system.

Ok I think I got it , I'll continue to learn and use the ANA grading manual for my own grading , and forget about Technical grading altogether . Only use the PCGS grading book for learning how PCGS grades . How does this sound .

I would grade this coin AU55 and possibly AU58. Thought I was going to say weak strike MS62 didn't ya. Not on this one. It has wear, but not terribly obvious wear. PCGS standards state that if the coin has friction on less than 50% of the surface, it is AU55.
