I want to lean towards it being die deterioration. Interesting coin?
Maybe a folded finned rim?

That makes it easier for us to help determine what you have. It may look like one thing when only a closeup is shown but may be something else if the entire coin is shown.

 

Take a normal picture of your cent. Don't use magnification which distorts the image.
