Are these bars currency ?

    So, I just found these in a box among my dad's collection. I can't imagine why they are there unless they are some sort of old currency ? It is interesting that they comprise several sizes, which could connote different currency values.
    I can run my finger over them and feel that they were inscribed at some point, but they are so worn I can't make out anything. Can anyone shed light on this ? Thanks !
