Question: What coins circulated in Spain around 1924?

I read a novel set in Spain in 1924 where the author mentioned some Spanish coins paid for services.

However, I looked up an old Yeoman book and couldn't find any that matched what was in the novel.

There were coins in circulation, but they tended by that time to be older issues from the pre-1910 era. Often times even with small denominations paper had largely taken over. Much of the paper money was also older, dates anyway, the Banco de España ordered significant stocks from Bradbury Wilkinson in 1906-1907 and continued to issue them well into the 1930's.

The reason for the shortage of coins, well the monarchy was in turmoil, the Republicans were on the rise, and by 1931 had overturned the monarchy. By 1936 the country was thrown into what then was one of the most devastating civil wars anywhere.
