1883 Carson City dollar with CC mintmark, is it possible for one or many of you to tentatively grade this. The fotos are not the best i know. Thanks
It looks like an MS-62 to me. It has a number of minor scrapes on the obverse and the luster is muted with a hazy look to it.
thanks for the advice. As i mentioned when i joined i inherited this collection of 600plus coins from my father in law and am completely new to all this. Slowly finding my way with all the great help and advice from all you people
Very nice..... I would strongly suggest leaving that in the government holder. Those holders are an important piece of numismatic history and are desirable to have. The grading companies will grade them in the government holder.
OK thanks. Second question if i may. In this collection are the following silver dollars, they are in square wite cardbourd holders that are stapled. The dates are, 1x1901, 1x1902, 2x1921, 4x1922, 3x1923, one walking liberty half dollar 1942 and a kennedy half dollar 1964. Is it worth having these appraised or are they generally much the same everywhere. Please excuse my ignorance in this fascinating subject.
The one I want to see are the 1922's. There is a well known error that is pretty valuable available on some (Being the 1922 no D and weak D). Also, the 1922's are guaranteed to be worth at least 20$ a piece. Other than that, those are common years.
There is a market for these coins in the government holder. In that market the grade has influence, but is not as important. This coin is an example of a piece that should be left where it is. It is not worth it to pay for a professional appraisal. It would be great if you could to a coin show, find an honest dealer and get some advice from him. Don't overwhelm him with a huge pile of coins. A few of the best-looking ones would be a decent start.
Perfect reverse on the 1883 CC, nice fields behind the obv portrait, a bit baggy on the cheek and in front. I'd go 64, the reverse pulling up the obverse a bit. Wouldn't be surprised to see a 63+ indicating 63 obv with excellent reverse.
