It's the only one I own. Dirty and worn but I like it. Wish I could get them all but that's not going to happen. She's an 1875-S, so for a hundred and forty five years old I like her.
They are all nice. I got one in change in the 50's in place of a quarter. There was an old man with a vegetable cart that came down our alley every couple of days. Mom gave me 50 cents to buy something that she knew was 25 cents. The man gave me the 20 cent piece thinking it was a quarter. He made a nickel and Mom lost a nickel. Then she said I could put it into my collection. That was about 65 years ago. I still haven't come across it in sorting my accumulation.
You were cheated out of a nickel in the '50's either by mistake or not. In the end, you made out good.
I had to take a chance with my mother. She pinched every penny. With 5 kids she needed to. When I came in I said the man made a mistake and I am 5 cents short. He gave me an old 20 cent piece instead of a quarter. As I hoped, Mom said "...you better put it in your collection..."
Very nice. I’ve owned every business strike date but the 76-cc which I’ll never own. The 76 to me is a really underrated coin
