I'm assuming we can discuss foreign coins on this "World and Ancient" forum. Today I had sooooo much fun! Visited 2 coins shops with my wife along. We bought much stuff! BUT,as we were leaving the shop, I noticed a guy tunneling through 3olbs of foreign coins, like a mole! It got me interested. The owner quoted $8 per pound. I said,give me a pound, but he said, no,you need to pick them out. So my wife sat on a couch and read while I went through the coins. It seemed 20 minutes (any idea how many danged coins it takes to make a pound! Quite a few!), but my wife told me I had looked for 2 1/2 hours!. She must have been uncomfortable of the wait, cause I was sure incomfotuable for the first five miles, when we got in the car! I would like to know how you guys do that trick "My Album", where a member can click on that and see your coins, because I sure want you to see some of the treasures I found! Coins from all over the globe, and when I think about how many hands they've been through, and how many miles they have travelled to reach mine...by Oxcart, on foot, through jungles, over oceans...well it just gets you to thinking what a little tiny piece of this big old globe you are! Not to mention the spectacular artwork on these coins. I told Elsie I thought the 1946 Cuban coin was my favorite and probably the most valuable as it is PreCastro Cuba. BUT, as always my bride trumpt me. She came in with a Half Dollar sized coin the color of the old US Pennies (I call them Brownies) and it said Republique Francaise, and had whom I believe to be Joan of Arc on the obverse, and a woman and child in a woodland scene on the reverse, and dated 1916 with 10c stamped. This coin has no scratches an no discerible wear! If you can Identify it, I would appreciate. Thanks,
Actually there is a dealer near me that will not sell individual coins out of the pick pile, but will sell them by the pound, but dang... I got an Alexander Janneus prutah, and a rare 19th century Danish coin that I turned around and sold on eBay for over $50 several years ago.
Wow, that IS sweet! I don't know how many coins I got, but it was 13oz and I paid the man for 16oz, cause if I'd stayed to find the other 3oz, I'd be a bachelor!

That world coin site is good, but Its complicated to find a coin. Example: I checked Eroupe/German/then it has time frames and political eras!! I don';t know enough to ask the question! I bought a brown coin with obverse of Juliana Koningin Der Nederianden, 5 cent 1961, but have no idea what country. Could be Dutch,German,what?
Its not so tough navigating that website....just go through the list by denomination and then time period and there are always picture there to confirm it. Anyway your new coin is of The Netherlands (Holland). I too got it a few weeks back. Happy Collecting.
Also I recommend you to buy the latest Krause Standard catalog of world coins for identifying world coins and their approximate value.

That 13oz of foreign coins, I tried to pick unique animal scenes, and I looked for coins in nearly Mint State or Proof conditon. Guess what? Check worldcoingallery....French West Africa...1956 10 francs (or better yet, just click "coin value" for KM6. Wooo HOOO BABY! Right here in hand, and perfect conditon! Man this stuff is FUN!
I'm glad that you finally got a hold of that website and remember the price guide in that website is not updated regularly. Buy the latest standard catalog for up to date prices. WOW..KM#6 priced at $150 in UNC...you're surely a lucky guy to own that....congrats....the price may increase several folds if the coin in question is indeed a proof. See if its surface is mirror finished or not to determine its proof condition. Your taste in world coins is indeed praiseworthy....keep it up:thumb:
