think of them as US pennies...I have about 4 gallons of them at home right now and have cashed in many gallons before...how many have been minted...now picture how many people drop them, and imagine a world where people bury pennies for use later and then die....how many US pennies will still be around in a thousand years....my guess they will still be rather common unless they are melted down.

many of these coins were minted in the millions each year...

Although because of the way they were made, they are much more unique and interesting than a penny.

I also agree that price will only continue to rise as demand goes up and less are found.

yeah, prices will definitely go up...that's why I'd like to get my hands on a few now = ) I don't really know of anyone I could get them from for a decent price, though. I definitely agree with you there, Drusus, in that the Roman coins are so much more interesting than our cents because they were hand-made...so much more unique!! and yet, they managed to make them all pretty much exactly the same. crazy stuff.

Well, I thought it was fairly cheap at $4000. The coin was graded MS64 and for a coin 650 years old that is anything but common. Find a US gold coin graded MS64 that is 200 years old and see what it cost.

But I think you got my point, age has nothing to do it. It's the same thing others said - supply and demand.

the link above is a great source for uncleaned...he is also on vcoins and sells a lot of great bargains already cleaned on ebay as well...his lots are often not your average constantine and clan...I have found Aurilian, Claudius II, Probus, Valentinian, etc...in his lots...I recommend highly and thats saying a lot because there are very few uncleaned dealers I would recommend.

First of all, I must say it's a splendid coin, with lots of history attached to it! I was guessing such a bargain price because I thought you had snagged it while others had their attention somewhere else (like on the pile of MS St. Gaudens)

I would have to agree, in that condition with it's pedigree I would have guessed much more. To me history like that is priceless.

Awesome! Thanks darkfenix and drusus, i'll definitely have to check those out! There aren't too many things that I can think of that are so old and handmade, but can still be bought for relatively cheap!
