Has anyone picked up the new Type Set Redbook yet? Mine just arrived today and WOW! This is going to be great! Just a few months ago I started a type set and was a bit intimidated at having to do research all over the place before I could pick out anything to add that wasn't within my knowledge comfort level. It sure is nice to have it all in one book. I especially like the OCGs offered by Mr. Bowers broken down by different budget levels. Very nice touch. Even if you are not building a type set, this is a great book with lots of fascinating information for ANY collector. I can't wait until Joe goes to bed so I can pour a glass of wine and dive back into it.
I have several books by Bowers but I hadn't heard of this one. Thanks for the heads up! Looks like they are selling for around $15 on Ebay.
It's JUST been released. I got my copy yesterday directly from Mr. Bowers out of the first batch that he just got from the publisher. I've seen the other Redbooks in this series on the shelves at the local Borders so it should be relatively easy to find. This is going to be a very helpful book for me personally since I'm starting on my own type set, I may want to get another copy so I don't make this one that is signed all dog-eared from use
LOL...What swim suit? ...pesky tan lines! Unless of course Joe is around...don't wanna scar him for life and send him screaming into therapy!
I bought this book today. I went down to Barnes & Noble with the idea of buying a replacement Coin Collecting for Dummies for the one I sent to my new-collector stepson, and I had it in hand, and then I noticed the Red Book for Type Coins book and I bought that instead. I was going to replace the Dummies book because I wanted the types reference material, and then I realized I could get the new book and both get the types reference plus additional collecting knowledge. Maybe I'll get inspired to extend my Types set back another century (currently only includes 20th). Interestingly, the author is covering all the state quarters. I don't plan on including state quarters as part of my type set. To me, the type is the Washington quarter, the rest are at best subtypes. Same for the Westward nickels, I don't plan to add them to my Type set. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
No problem...I get almost as big of a thrill adding a good book to my collection as adding a beautiful coin!
