    I have a few cut coins. Most likely they were used for change. Most are struck bronze.

    Today I picked up a partial cast quadrans. When the coin arrives, I will post pictures with other broken cast bronze. For now, the seller's pics will do.

    Roman republic, Halved Cast Quadrans, Janus/prow to right libral series, 225-217 BC.
    Obv - Head of Hercules left [behind, three pellets].
    Rev - Prow right; below, three pellets (two missing).
    Cr. 35/4
    31.95 grams; 31.95 X 2 X 3 => equivalent As of 192 grams
    39 mm
    Good VF, Superb light green patina. . A very interesting example, halved in antiquity to create smaller change.
    Rare - I am not sure if the seller was saying cut coins are not common today, or refers to the whole coin. This is the first cut Cr 35/4, but I have seen several other cut cast coins. I have not seen a 1-1/2 dot cast coin.

    Wonderful piece:artist:! I happened to of put in a bid on that bad boy earlier (sorry for jacking the price up. though I wasn't even the underbidder)! Though I didn't win, it couldn't be going to a better home. And I did pick up something very special in that same auction as well:D plus a couple snacks to ease the shipping.

    I was the underbidder on the cut quadrans yesterday :D I saw it going cheaply on the deamoneta app, so threw in a bid, but didn't pursue it - I got the 2 coins I'd bid on before the live session, it was enough.

    Good buy!

    I am glad the half quadrans went at a reasonable price (20% over start). The one I really wanted went 50% over from a higher start, uuuugh. I probably should have waited, but I wanted a match for these:

    Timing is interesting. The auction had a really nice Janus / Prow right As that went unsold at 1250 E.

    Carthago Does this look infected to you?

    A neat piece! I had it saved in on Numisbids in my watch list but didn't bid.
