I’m sure some of you out there are aware of the recent discovery – a major DDR Lincoln Cent was discovered in late 2007. The doubling is very dramatic; in fact it rivals the 1983 DDR. The coin, a 1982 small date zinc cent was completely unknown to me until yesterday, when I read a request for anyone that might donate the coin temporarily for photographic purposes. What shocked me most was this coin at the higher grades was listed at around $11,000, and it left me puzzled.

I started looking for a small date 1982 zinc cent, and found one among some mixed coins I had sitting around. Incredibly, this one coin – the only one I inspected – was the coveted DDR, showing doubling within the pillars, on “E Pluribus Unum”, and around most of the perimeter. Believe me; it leaves nothing to the imagination. Thinking it couldn’t be that rare, I starting searching for any relative information. Luckily, an article written by Ken Potter in Feb. 2008 mentioned there were only 2 known specimens. The photo was an exact match of the coin I’d found. The 2nd coin was found after inspecting around 20 rolls of 1982 small date zinc cents. The article can be found at Numismaster.com. Here’s the link: http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=3831

Has anyone out there heard of any other finds for this variety; any information provided will be appreciated. I’ll try to get some images to supply later, sorry I haven’t taken any yet.

    Thanks, A.J.

Sorry, but if that is a picture of the DDR, I am not impressed.

And this new DDR Variety is the very reason that very few rolls of 1982-P "Small Date - Zinc" Cents are offered anywhere and when they are, the prices go through the roof per say!

How about this one, like four years ago I bought an error pennny off some guy on Amazon it was a a nice struck half off the planchet. Put it in my book and forgot all about it cuz you can’t see the date Tonight I was looking at it. I’m like man I know that reverse. And sure as hell under the scope there it was. The 1982 small date zinc ddr 001 on a more then half struck planchet in I’m talking mint condition it’s never been touched. it’s literally one of a kind. Can you even put a price on something like that. The old two for one baby Chyeahh. I would put a lot of money down on it’s the only One in the world that exists.
