Welcome to the forum Misty! That's peculiar, I know that for sure, lol. Not sure what it is exactly though, could you take a closer pic?

Hmm, much better, looks like a lamination to me, but I could be wrong on that. If it is, congrats! :thumb: I'll leave it to the experts though, lol. :thumb:

Congrats? Why do coins like this bring a higher price?

Typically lamination errors don't bring a premium (unless they're extensive)

However, as far as I know they don't occur too often on coins like this.
On Nickels and Cents its a common thing, but on a silver eagle? I've never seen one before.

Because these coins are specially made for collectors, and are supposed to have a closer eye kept on them. Like proof coins, errors aren't any where close to being common, especially one noticable like this. They typically bring a nice premium. Lol, that's why I said congrats. That's not your average melt value ASE. ;)

I have never seen one on a silver eagle either but Iam not sure what kind of premium it will bring. No worries though someone on here will have an answer for you.

Thanks guys for the information, I'm sure it is not worth to much over melt but, it was supprising to see. I was suprised the dealer didn't notice it. He actually took the coins out and counted 20 of them in front of me.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I would have it authenticated by NGC or PCGS as an mint error and then find out how much this error would bring at auction. It's a pretty significant error in terms of appearance and to my knowledge you don't see errors that often on a ASE. A lot of people collect these coins and errors being scarce has to make this a little more valuable than normal especially to the right collector. I'm sure there are people out there willing to pay a premium for that coin if it's authenicated. Nice find and Welcome to CT :)

Lamination Error? Not sure. Good find though.

Not common, that is for sure. It may be worth a few bucks. Bring it to a sharp coin dealer who submits for PCGS and ask if they think you should send it in.

Sweet find! My question: is it raised, level or below the rest of the coin on that area?

I'm not sure it is a lamination. It could be a strike-through.

Exactly, and an embedded strike through. If it were a lamination the color wouldn't be that different. The coins are solid silver all the way through. For that black to be there, it almost has to be an embedded strike through.

Let me ask you Misty, does the black seem to stick up above the rest of the coin ?

it boils down to individuals doing their job correctly and efficiently. this happens at fast food restaurants,garages,banks,plumbers,..........even mint quality control!
people too busy loafing or doing something instead of concentrating on their work. where's their pride?

maybe this is no real coin, but a coin made of steel and it´s only thin silver on it ? What is the weight of the coin?
