So here are the 49PDS from the Whitman above. The P is pretty brown on the obverse and RB on the reverse but the spots pretty much kill it (not as noticible until you blow it up for sure). The D has a nice deep red tone and die crack on the forehead. The S is the star of the group with extremely good luster and a depth of red that is just amazing in hand. I must need new lights because it just doesnt come through on the pictures.
So actually took another look at the 47P and except for a couple of hits has to be one of the better BN LWC I have seen. I think MS with a bit of luster.
I found a roll of Lincolns I didn't know I had. All the coin's had excessive polishing from a repeated die clash. This roll was a lot of fun to study. Some one correct me if I am wrong the whole roll has metallic grease deposited along the rims, that is the explanation for the two spots above M and I on the reverse. It looks like this. It nudges off easily with a sharpened bamboo skewer, tried it on a baggy example.
Same Whitman, this time the 50PD. The D has a die chip/scratch on the reverse between the left wheat stalk and the rim.
