why GOOD scans are important, ESPECIALLY for any error!

let me be the 1st to apologize to nana (btw, i knew nana could only be someone's grandma:smile) from the initial scans posted, there was the circle looming down at you, another member noted that his scanner produced the same anomoly. pcgs provided me with better scans to help in the determination and THOSE scans left LITTLE, IF ANY, DOUBT. It's a genuine error from the F/L block and my estimate on value?? between $15,000.00 & $20,000.00........ conservatively:eek: as i posted in mu "CU" thread:
    http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=23&threadid=667333
it is equally rare, if not moreso than the two 7 digit mis-matches shown in the above thread, one of which brought over $20,000.00 in a recent auction! So I geussing a new ChallengerRT maybe??:hail:

As obvious as this error looks, you all have to admit that it takes a sharp eye to notice it. For years I have looked for error notes in circulation and mismatched serial numbers are the most time consuming to look for. It takes less time to search brand new bills (if all 8 digits match on the first bundle, you only have to focus on the last three digits for the whole bundle), but it takes forever to check circulated bills.

Every year I keep thinking my chances of finding a major error are going away with all the automated error detection technologies available, but I love reading threads like these because it means I still have a chance.

    Thanks OP (or rather shortysnana).

When I first read this thread I didn't comment as I am no expert in errors. I think this is one of those situations where people should just say "have it authenticated by a TPG and get back to us". Better pictures would have helped but I understand not everyone is a semi-professional photographer. I have seen enough notes with errors in the serial to know it could happen so I was hoping that it would be authenticated and that you would share the news with CT. As rare as it is I do understand the skepticism but that should never discourage the owner that has the actual note/coin in hand. Thank You and Congrats!!! If/when you end up selling it - I am sure you will smile all the way to the bank! I think if you wait and get it into the right auction that you may do better than the number you tossed out. :D

    Best Regards ~ Darryl

The note is up on the Heritage website under Major errors if anyone wants to look...I don't know how to post the link.
