You need to sell one of your gold coins and buy a decent camera. :kewl: It looks like you got the central portion of the coin reasonably in focus in Pics 2 & 3 but the top and bottom portions were thrown out of focus because you are shooting the coin at an angle. If you can shoot straight into the coin and get the coin in focus (as it appears that you can) you should get better results. That said, I don't know if your coin is a Proof or not. I don't know those coins and I don't know the characteristics to look for for a Proof. It does not look like a Proof to me though.
i need to auction one of your coins instead just the auction coomisison will get me a nice camera [/QUOTE] did i mention i am looking to hire a detective and i have narrowed down my search to you. no wonder you wrote that article on coin photos. thanks for the tips i will try that
Based on those pics there is but one clue that can be used to determine if it is Proof or not. The coin is slightly off center - so no it is not.
Just curious all the proof 1945 4 pence coins are centered perfectly? Do the proofs also come with squared off rims and denticle? I have no clue about these foreign coins, so never hurts to ask questions.
nope and nope but those are the odds i guess its not worth sending to TPG although fromw aht i have seen the strike is very sharp and its not common for unc coins to have that kind of a strike but i could be wrong or right its a 200$ difference
All I can say is that most Proofs are pretty much centered. Perfectly may be pushing it, but that coin is not even close. You have to remember, Proofs are made with much more care and precision than business strike coins. And they make very few of them, so there is no rushing.
Spock next time you need a question answered just send the coin to your friendly neighborhood answer man :goofer:, me . rzage:hatch::hammer:
My first impression, besides being out of focus, was the off centered strike. While looking for other clues I should have realized that it was a business strike because of the precision of a Proof strike. Nice coin anyway, Spock1k. Bruce
