Yes mate an Alexander III shame the photo didn't come out, fantastic looking coin till I had it apraised on FORUM,turned out to be a forgery.regards Harry
My computer is slow, so it takes sooo looonng to show me your pics, hence I opted for Claudius II coin. Wow, if that ain't the Devil, who is it? Second, I saw that add on vcoins, and wondered what method one would use to clean these coins? Now Caligula was the Bad Ass right, and his crippled and cruel son was Claudius right, so who is Claudius II...the son of Claudius? I think Claudius made his stepson Emporer. Anyway, that is on unique and seriously SCARY coin! Conradulations of such a rare find!
are you talking about mine or the one svess posted?? cuz i don't think i got anything rare from what i can see but could be wrong
G'Day all, finaly fixed the problem,so go back to my first post 1 page back and you'll see what I mean
any hints on what makes it a forgery for an alexander the great coin? besides casting marks I'm not overly sure what 2 look for
Claudius was Caligula's uncle. He was never supposed to be emperor. Claudius was the son of Drusus who was the son of Livia which makes him Livias (wife to Augustus) grandson (not Augustus as Drusus was her son from another marriage) Claudius passed the empire to his son Britannicus and his Step son Nero who was the son of Agrippina the Younger, and his forth wife (also sister to Caligula thus his niece). Britannicus was his natural son with his 3rd wife, the disgraced Valeria Messalina. His will for his son to rule with Nero was suppressed and Nero took full power, Britannicus was dead not long after. Claudius II has nothing to do with the Julio-Claudians or the first Claudius and is in no way related. He is from an obscure background (like many of the time) and he ruled about 200 years later well after the principate and well into the age of Military rulers. He is a relatively unknown character, career military, served under Gallianus. He ruled for 2 years until he died of the plague and Aurelian (another general) and his brother Quintillus fought for power, Aurelian won.
True, thats the rumor. One can certainly see how that might be a rumor he would like to have circulated and its not far fetched to think Augustus would want distance himself from him. All the same, his father and mother were both of the highest ranks, his grandfather being Marcus Antonius, grandmother being Livia, son to Drusus, Brother to Germanicus, etc... there must have been problems for a man with his pedigree not to have been considered for the throne.
This Alexander III coin I posted on FORUM to let the experts judge if it was the real thing or a counterfiet coin and they all agreed that it was a counterfiet coin and that it was documented I think in the counterfiet section on FORUM but they did all agree that it was counterfeit so be careful what you buy off auctions oh and this came from one of the best auction site I know and it wasn't fleabay or FORUM regards Harry
