It's worth a penny, plus whatever premium copper has, except you cannot melt it and make a profit, so it's worth a cent.
Die cracks usually don't command a premium unless they're really prominent. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_defect Here's a few examples: http://www.error-ref.com/4880-2/
The weakness that your coin shows at the top reverse is a common spot for LMC's and LWC's to show weakness due to the design of the obverse die. It is not really caused by being struck through debris / grease.
Oh ok I was just asking mainly because it's completely missing the "E" in E pluribus I haven't seen one like that yet. Thanks for the info ya'll.
Suggestion.. Create your future threads over at the Error Coins forum. Most minor issues have little or no premium at all. Just ask what you may have and worry about value last. Are you hoping to strike it rich?
I play the lotto sometimes and I'd love to strike it rich but realistically I don't believe that will happen. By the coins? No. I'd like to find the cool coins. By that I mean uncommon coins. Which "usually" means that they're worth more, right? More than likely I wouldn't sell them, then what I have to look at?
I think you'll have a better chance at winning some money in the lottery than finding really good error coins especially circulated coins.
Yeah I know right. But I'm not real picky. I'm not talking about finding a $100,000 coin. I'll take a $20 one and that's fine with me. I'm not in it to sell the coins. I just go by money cost to represent the quality of the coin. Right now I'm just concentrating on filling albums though. I'm still checking for errors on the list I got from one of the books I read but my main purpose is finding halfway decent coins to go into a Lincoln Cent album. I've found a lot of good ones. I've been keeping up with what I got using an app. I'm going to get the actual album this week hopefully.
It posted twice so I erased this one. But by the quality of the coin you all know what I'm trying to say I hope.
what was that error list? I'm sure CT members can help to add/improve to that list. I just went through my annual penny hoarding process and really just separated them and didn't look for anything. LOL
I bought "The Red Book 2020 edition" last night kindle edition Here's the error list I've been going by
The correct numismatic terminology is actually Doubled Die.. Not double die That also goes for Doubled Ear not double ear And.. Those all seem to be Varieties. There's a difference between a variety and mint error. Here is some information - https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/1655/Variety-versus-Mint-Error/ And https://www.pcgs.com/news/mint-error-or-die-variety And http://coinauctionshelp.com/Variety_Mint_Errors.html#.XlbfWKhOn3A
Oh I printed directly out of the back of a Kindle book. Where is a list I should be going by? Is there one in the red book cause it's a big book I haven't went through it yet?
Excellent.. Much better! Many of those are almost impossible to find. Such as the 1943 Copper and the 1944 Steel.. But hey, who knows! Good luck! By the way.. The 1959 Wheat back.. Only one has ever been discovered and it is considered a fake!
