Gorgeous Penny, I think DDO-001. Should I get it graded and check out the missing piece of his ear, whats up with that. Thanks everyone, for your thoughts!
Your coin is a 1968 S, not D. There are two DDOs for this date for business strike coins...very similar as I remember. You would need to give us closeups of IGWT. Doubling is evident in the motto.
This was in the era where VV numbering is different from coppercoins numbering, so indicate which one when you want us to compare. Jim
Okay thanks, sorry bout the 68d, I knew it was S, my bust. I think its DDO-001, die marks appear to match perfectly. Thanks for your input everyone, my next question to you all is, this is a beautiful coin, is it worth getting graded? Would you all get it graded if it was yours? Could it be a ms68, ms69, I dont know...
Two things - I’m not seeing doubling. There are too many nicks and dings in significant areas on the obverse and a finger print and spotting on the reverse to grade high MS Your photos are very good but you need to post closeups of IGWT or point out the markers.
I think it has spent a small amount of time in circulation from photo ( maybe pixels ), but any would take it out of the 60s.
MS 68 and MS 69 is ridiculously high. Almost perfect. Can't tell from the photo but even if it looks very good it's not going to be more than 64 or 65.
Okay, so thats good for a ddo, right? But not worth grading?. I am new to this whole grading thing, but I think my initial membership with pcgs gives me a certain # of submissions. This may be a great learning experience, yes? Ive GOT to start recouping my multiple 25$ box of pennies sometime.....LOL...I have several more beauties I will try to post this week, get your opinions. This is so fun and exciting, thanks everyone for your time and patience with me, I am learning!
@Chopperhead please be aware that finding minor errors is not that common, and finding anything that you could sell for than $1 is a rare occurance. As others have said, just because it looks different doesn't mean it's an error. Coins can be damaged in innumerable ways once the enter circulation. Best recommendation is trying to learn the minting process. That will help you determine actual errors from the 99% of the damaged coins. Look at Wexlers site. Www.doubleddie.com It takes time to become proficient
@Chopperhead You need to publish clear pictures of IGWT. Mimic these photos aiming for same size and clarity: https://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1968&die_id=1968s1do006&die_state=mds The pictures you posted are very good...especially for a newbie. But I (we) need additional photos to confirm/attribute your coin. At this point, I'm at No DDO and a low MS coin. But if we can attribute your coin, you may have a $10 coin on hand. So post those pictures and let's see what you have.
Oh just now saw this, okay, hold on...lol...A TEN DOLLAR PENNY? Not bad for my first bonafide doubled die! You guys, I dont just sit out here and post pennies...just fyi, I go through roll after roll'n studying and trying to get better, many many MANY hours, I love it. So when I start posting a few, Ive been savin em up, gettin the courage up to get shot down again....lol...you all are great, tough, but great, thank you. Okay....hang on.
Not seeing any doubling. Based on the close-up @Kentucky posted, I only see some worn die strike errors. A better close-up of IGWT from the OP has been requested at least 3 times by @Kevin Mader ...still waiting. This coin is not a bonafide doubled die...yet...imo...Spark
I know...I know...closest Ive been yet! Hey all, pics suck in this lighting, fresh pics in the morn. Thanks again
Okay, heres a few better ones. I hope this helps. Had to wait for better light, my friends. I knew you were waiting...
IMHO...I see die deterioration but no doubling. There is something going on inside the bottom loop of the MM, and since it can’t be a plating blister, you’ll have to match it to known RPMs to be definitive. Maybe a resident RPM expert can shed some light. Your coin is a AU58 Red...Spark
Thanks @Chopperhead for the additional photos. Unfortunately, it is not a DDO. Just a normal cent with some chatter on IGWT. Still a decent circulation cent, but no real premium. The hunt continues! Good luck!!
