Yes. It looks like a cast coin. A counterfeit

 

When I first looked at the auction I thought cast. I am not positive, but it certainly looks weird.

 

The surfaces look WAY too clean.
I don't mean cleaned, I mean free of marks.
Like in artificial.

Another possibility.
The seller has REALLY reworked the images (something being hid?)

Either way run, don't walk, away from it.

 

Hmmm. It does not look right. I'm not sure if it is a contemporary counterfeit or not. (I don't have a good reference book for that.) IF it is genuine it looks like it could have been struck from rusted dies. Does anyone know of an 1832 Overton variety with rusted dies?

I would not bid on this coin, especially at the current bid (approaching $100).

 

Well guys I have to disagree somewhat. I think it is authentic ,an O-113 actually. But I also do think the coin was wiped or cleaned. If it is a fake it was modeled after a neat variety that is idetified by the dot under the chin. Without the coin in hand though It is hard to say 100%. His other bust halves look pretty good in my opinion overall.

 

I take back my skepticism, it is actually a O-113a, which is a R.4, O-113 is only an R.2. I had never seen a coin in this condition and strike detail that was completely missing the milling around the edge. The O-113A also has the correct damage to the letters in UNITED. That was one heck of a well used die pair!

The wear does not look right to me. And the lips look like clay-mation.

I AM NOT an expert.

 

I think it's real, but it looks tooled, or re-ingraved, plus heavily cleaned to the point where it looks like lead instead of silver. I wouldn't give 5 bucks for the thing like that.

Hmmmm....i was also looking at some of his coins. My interest was rather for the earlier
dated halves (07,08,09 etc). Do those look OK to you guys?

 

Well I didnt have my books last night so I was going off memory, O-113a rather than O-113 , those LDS still get me when goin thru my mental rolodex of coins.

At this point I think that the coin is genuine, but that it very well may have been cleaned. Several of his other BHD lots that he has posted have been harshly cleaned or whizzed.

I looked at some of his early halves and I believe they are real, but I believe they have been cleaned, which isn't unusual, but some of them are badly cleaned. Look at the reverse of the 1809. Looks like it's been wire brushed and then retoned. Thought it looked ok until I looked at the back. Ugh!

Well, it appears to be an inverted nipple. In which case, it needs a mammogram. Or, it is a cavity in the bust because it is(perhaps) a transfer die forgery. It sure doesn't look like a normal circulation hit to me. I also have trouble with the area behind the cap, between the stars, which to me looks more like unfinished metal than flow lines. To me, this is a worrisome piece, If I bought it I would look at it very carefully.
