Finding these in red is tough, not many were saved once the 1909 VDB hype died down. I remember looking for years for one. I ended up with like five 1910's (only a couple are red) in my collection because I kept finding non-red coins that I couldn't resist. I mean, how could I turn this one down?
I also have, like, five of these. Some have problems, some are closer to what I hoped. I just have a thing for these early dates.
Update: Here's the thread I started in reference to my 1909 ? VDB question. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1909-vdb-lincoln-cent.355522/
Picked up this Whitman album for less than 30 cents each. Most are dogs but A few nice ones and the 51 PDS are quite nice. Tough to capture the toning. The S mint is weakly struck but I think they are all MS.
So I rinsed in acetone and put in airtites. The P is through the airtite the D and S is without the top of the capsule on. Great luster on the P and D and a little more muted on the S. Nice Deep red. I wonder the S is probably RB and the others maybe as well but might pass for RD? What do you think?
