Hi Folks, Verified this coin with Variety Vista and curious your thoughts on it’s dollar value. Thanks much. Jackalope12
Well without seeing a picture of just the coin itself...not a picture of a picture... it looks like coppercoins 1982P-1DO-002.http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1982&die_id=1982p1do002&die_state=mds I’m not sure how accurate their price guides are. I’d guess that the coin is maybe low AU?
It's a DDO, but I think you would have been better off with 5 decent photos. Consider a full obverse and a full reverse and a few photos of subject areas (try mimicking the photos posted at one of the DD sites like Coppercoins). Same clarity and size. Confirmation of what you have is made easier that way. And you need photos clear enough to determine the coins grade. It appears to be a circulated coin, but understanding die state helps in the overall diagnostic and grade.
Thx for your comments. The coin is definitely DDO-001 as the defining diagnostic is the die crack from the upper left rim through the D of UNITED. LDS. I’m disappointed that the pics I’ve put up are insufficient—guess I need more practice.
Yes furryfrog02, I looked at the link u posted. If u look at your own link and check out 001, u will see my coin with the reverse with the most defining diagnostic—the large die crack. If u read my initial post u will see that I am looking only for opinions on the value of my coin—not verification of what it is.
Jackalope, your logic is a little fuzzy. You are looking for a DDO, and if it isn't there, it doesn't matter what is on the reverse. It may have appeared so in the VV photos and description , but it is a confirmatory point, not an identification indicator as a DDO. The reverse die may have immediately been paired with a different obverse and that is what you have. You can not use a secondary point as a confirming point. DDO first, confirmatory second. Jim
@jackalope128 I think what folks are trying to say is that when identifying a DDO/DDR, the first step is to confirm that you have doubling. As a second step, looking for markers is helpful to confirm what you have and the die state your coin is in. I recognize that you have a DDO; personally I didn't need the marker to confirm that. I see the spread in IGWT. Looking at VV, you have the Stage D marker as pickin and grinnin pointed out. You photos of your screen aren't helpful in providing input with regard the grade. If you use the photograde at PCGS, you should be able to establish that. If I had to guess, maybe $10 in circulated condition, VF/XF coin.
