I was going to order some 2005 nickels from them. But then I saw the price. They wanted $8.95 for a P and D roll, plus S&H. I would rather wait for them to get to the banks, then I can pay face value and no S&H.

I order from the mint if there's something I'm interested in. I ordered nickels both last year and this year. Mint and proof sets are other examples that I would buy direct from the mint.

Lol. Dont feel bad. You get them, while I sit and wait for my bank to get them lol. You will probably get them before me :p

I buy proof ASEs, silver proof sets, and the occasional speculative purchase such as a roll of Sacs last year and rolls of nickels this year from the Mint. Actually, I usually buy proof ASEs from local dealers, but the dealers here are somewhat nonresponsive about getting things for me not in their stock and don't give me a definitive answer as to when things they will carry (such as ASEs) are going to be available, so I went with the Mint this year. It was worth it to not have to stop in or call every week at the dealer.

I also bought nickels to give away to family members (I packaged them in Air-Tites). It was fun; I called my Dad and told him to expect ten cents in the mail ! :)

To me the price of the nickels seemed cheap compared to anything else I buy. Of course, if I were buying in larger quantities I would be more price conscious. I don't have confidence in getting rolls from my bank. They act almost hostile when I ask for rolls of halves, and they never have them).

So yes, I buy from the Mint.

:O My bank has PLENTY of halves, most of them are from the 70's and 80's too. I buy them by the roll, $10 a roll.

I buy and order from the mint every year of the things that I want to buy. Like clock work, when they release an item or items, I'm usually in there. Now I do try to order at least $100 a pop so I can get the free shipping upgrade, altho this year I noticed they used the USPS instead of FedEx, perhaps they only use FedEx when I order the 4-coin proof set, or very expensive shipment, we'll see. ;)

I think you have to buy more than $300 worth of stuff to get the free upgrade to expedited shipping. Normal shipping is USPS, expedited is FedEx. The US Mint web site is down this weekend, so I can't verify the $300 limit, but I think that's what it was when I placed an order two weeks ago.

That's a long time to have to wait; I know, because I had to wait about a month before the Girl Scout cookies arrived. It's no fun. :)

Hmmm, come to think of it, I ordered the mint cookies; I think I see a pattern here.

I have a subscription at the mint for the 11-coin proof set, uncirculated coin set, proof SAE. Also I order various rolls, sets, etc. whenever they come out with something I think I had better grab. Sometimes its a bust but lately it has been very exciting when you see secondary market values for these affordable sets and rolls. Mint packaging vs Bank packaging? Just check the secondary market again and see which brings a better premium.

I first ordered from the mint in 1961. I bought 10 proof sets, which I still have. I think they cost me $2.70 each.

Since that time I have ordered coins most every year.

My favorite orders from the mint are proof sets, silver proof sets, and proof silver Eagles.

For the most part, I have been happy with the coins and the service.

Postage and handling used to be free if ordered over the internet. I am disappointed that still isn't the policy in that the mint makes a tremendous amount of money as it is.

    :) :)

Sorry Gary, but I don' t agree. With all these speculators and vest pocket dealers now ordering more than they ever hope to sell, and having to return the items, the mint is only charging what it cost them to restock and ship returned items. This didn't use to be a problem, until the old green eyeyed money monster raised it's head. Or at least that is how I see it. :)
