Recently I picked up a lot of junk silver which was comprised of this Morgan and Walking Liberty Half, as well as five other walkers. Got all $4 dollars face for $58 with shipping (not bad, right?). What are your oppinions on the grade of the morgan and this walker? Also I noticed what appeared to be a die break on the second 8 of the date pictured below...What do you guys think?

14.5X face seems very high the way current silver prices are. Depends if the coins are worth substantially more than melt.

Morgan looks like an AU-50 (breast feathers look weak, I'm going to assume this is due to the strike), walking liberty, maybe VF-25.

Maybe I'll try for a better deal next time although I'm thinking that silver prices will rebound in the not too distant future. Thank you for the grades. Any other takers?

The breat feathers do look pretty weak but I think this is just a side-effect of the scanner as they are much more visible to the eye. Here are a couple of photos that I took with my digital camera.

Thanks stainless. Anyone have any thoughts on the suspected die break?

Taking that into account, you didn't do that awfully. Just keep an eye on the silver price and the typical melt values.

I'm thinking 50 on the Morgan. The Walker looks like a borderline V/VF.

From your picture of the date, the dollar looks like it was whizzed at one time. That aside, I would say AU-50. The suspected clash in the 8 is not significant enough to have a VAM.

The Morgan looks funny to me. I'd say it has AU details but has been overly dipped or something.

I was suspecting whizzing, in the high res scan there are some stange marks. Thanks everyone for your input.

I see nothing to make me think that dollar has been whizzed, or even harshly cleaned. Looks like a solid AU coin to me.

The Morgan looks AU-55 to me. I don't see any signs of a die crack, and I don't see any signs of it being whizzed.

    VF-25 for the walker.

It does not appear to be a die crack in my opinion.

I don't see any evidence of whizzing or cleaning , it's most likely the 1st set of pictures that just make it appear so .

The lines I see here going from the edge of the coin up to liberty's bust here near the date in this blow up... is that the signs of whizzing? It looks as if these marks are present all over the coin near the edges heading inward. It also looks as if in the plain fields of the obverse are alot of grainy areas, what does magnification reveal there? I am still trying to pick up the basics of spotting cleaned (light/harsh), whizzed and counterfits.... lots of lessons and information to be learned, lol.

Whizzing would show more circular lines from the brush or brushes spinning around , there probably would be built up areas around the stars and letters as the metal is moved by the brushes up against the letters. JMO
