I think your nickel might be from 1921 - Look here before you pickle the nickel...https://www.flickr.com/photos/captainfwiffo/8387858217/
After you have a look at them Lisa, come back and let us know what year you think it might be and why.
If you take an eye loupe and use a very bright light and tilt the coin around at various angles, sometimes you can pick up part of the date which you can't see with normal room light. I have a sunlamp with 3 (450?) watt bulbs. This often helps me see a date that cannot be seen under regular light.
The Buffalo Nickel was designed by James Earl Fraser who was an important artist during the first part of the 20th century. His wife, Laura, was also a very talented artist who designed some of the American commemorative coins issued during the same period. Laura almost got to design the Washington Quarter, but the secretary of the treasury overruled the opinions of the Fine Arts Commission and John Flannigan got the nod instead. Her design was used for a 1999 Washington commemorative $5 gold coin. I am on an iPad so I can’t post pictures. Sorry. Maybe some else could post some.
It must be 3 bulbs at 150=450. If they were all 450 there would be a core meltdown as I can't even use more than 60 watts in the rest of the house. (There's special wiring for the heat lamp.)
They used to list on the Graysheet for 7 cents apiece in roll quantities, but I don’t know the dealers who bought them.
