If it goes past April 15th and we do not receive a statement of the taxes that we were charged there will be an avalanche of 1040-x filings after the class action lawsuits get ebay to issue the statements. When the political nimrods see what their meddling cost in IRS overtime and interest payments they won't be doing any bragging about their brain child.

Same in Oregon. We have dual citizenship Oregon & Hawaii. -0- sales tax in Oregon. I think someone's trying to capitalize on the system. Too bad!

Just remember that I don't believe this taxing change took place until this year so those statements will be for NEXT years filing not this years April 15th.

Actually, sales taxes aren't the same as income taxes.

Sales taxes are due monthly or quarterly - depends on the jurisdiction and sometimes the size of the account (expected sales). States began to collect "Wayfair" taxes as early as June 2018...

I am from Michigan also and was surprised by sales tax being charged on coins and bullion on eBay.

Can you explain how you where able to get a sales tax refund. I called eBay like 5 times and have got no where. Did you get your refund from eBay or from the State of Michigan? More info on how to get sales tax refund would be helpful. THANKS

    Depends on state law...

You should start with eBay and escalate there until you get a flat no.

Meanwhile research state law (in Texas to claim the refund you need a notarsed quit claim type form from the seller).

I got a refund from ebay. I had to call twice, and send them a message on their facebook page, with item numbers, as well as a link to the tax-exemption statute. I also reported them to michigans attorney general, and made sure they knew it. And, i requested an account closure. Only after all this did they refund my money. After the refund, i called to cancel the account closure, but the first coin i tried to buy afterward had sales tax added to the invoice after i clicked "commit to buy", so i didn't complete the sale. I don't really care if they open an unpaid item case or not at this point, i'm beyond fed up.

All you’re doing is messing around with the seller at this point. At least have the decency to request it be canceled so you don’t have someone’s inventory tied up for a week or more because you’re fed up with a problem that the seller has no control over

I want to apologize to baseball21 for being salty. You were right, my post did not indicate that i had messaged the seller and asked to cancel the sale. I was kind of hoping that they wouldn't, and a nonpayment case would bring the issue to someone's attention at ebay, so maybe they can fix the bug.
