This arrived in the mail today... It's a (dated) 1720 Switzerland (Beromuenster) medallic 1/4 Taler struck to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the abbey. The obverse depicts St. Michael slaying the dragon and the reverse features their arms. Very few nice examples of these coins come on the market. Worn and problem examples appear from time to time, but nice choice unc examples are fairly uncommon.

Greg, Great Great coin:hail: That is about the most brutal design of St. Micheal slaying the dragon (or this case it looks more like a beast) that I have ever seen. The strike looks very strong and the silver has a nice toning.
This coin is for my personal collection. I'm working on a set of them and have been for about 6 years. I've managed to get only three (two 1/2 Talers including the Krause Plate Coin and this 1/4 Taler). Krause lists (4) different 1/4 Talers, (7) different 1/2 Talers, and (1) Gulden. They just don't come along enough for me to put a nice set together.
Yeah I've been watching what you've posted over the years, kinda figured they were for your collection. You always manage to find those obscure, hard to find issues :thumb:

Check out European auction companies for one of these. I rarely see them offered in US auctions, but they do appear in European auctions every now and again. If it matters to you, they've been restruck numerous times over the years and there is a way to date them based on the mint masters initials on them. However, I do not have a list of dates/mint masters, but occasionally the auction catalogs will list the date range they were actually struck.
