there is only a few people who i have admired in history and i though it would make a great gift to give a gold coin from his era as a gift.
i have been looking at ebay but i have no idea what a good price is to pay for a coin from that era (i am aware there r hundered of different types)
can u guys give me some advise as to were to look and what to pay? thanks

If you are contented with any year between 1806 and 1814
you should be able to get an XF for less then 90 euro plus shipping
Be advised that Aholds you posted is very popular and commands
high prices

It is normally a lot cheaper then all the little mints collectors
are running up like the W in the link you attached

The coin you reference is announced as a Very Fine which with the edge
indentations and the slight wear is a correct description
There is strike lustre left
This coin may go a reasonalble price like 101 to 121 dollars plus shipping
since it has lots of eye appeal but not a high technical grade

If you like it go for it but do not forget what a money transfer may cost
I have bought from this guy but since he has a Euro account that was zero cost for me

 

i really want to buy on the us markets cause the kiwi dollar is real strong right now and overall prices for buying things from the US is quite cheap.
he uses paypal so that should be alright.

Well keeping in mind that nothing is in stone:

According to Gold Coins of The World from ancient times to the present 7th edition:
the 1811A in EF condition is worth $250 in UNC condition jumps to $750
the 1811W in EF cond is $275 and in UNC it is $1250 all US dollars.

Now just because a book says that is its value doesn't mean squat. Many coins can be bought and had for much less money than posted. Mainly because in the US there is NO place to confirm or check for world gold coin prices unless you have some type of reference book like the one I just purchased and received today--therefore I was able to provide to you what my new book says those 2 items are worth in those 2 conditions..Hope that helps some..

i think i will bid on the 1811A near closing time unless it goes up too much..maybe some day when i have loads of money i can start collecting the entire napoleonic era collection.

 

I mean that because of the edgebangs and some wear he himself calls
it Very Fine that is a full step below XF extremely fine which if a full grade below Uncirculated
So basically it is a nice coin that has seen circulation and some wear
So if you like the looks of the coins go for it
Like explained in the post above , prices go up astronomically for better grades

 

i ended up not placing a bit on it as the price seems to have rocked (damn autobiding).
but i am still on the look out for some napoleoninc coins so i will probably have to keep following the ebay auctions. unless there is a better place to buy them??

Not many dealers reputable or otherwise in Belgium and I do not know about New Zealand were the original post starter comes from
But price wise an honest ebay seller is the best source to me

 

I contacted some US reputable dealers and in order to sell insured outside the US they asked an arm and a legg and very expensive and irrevocable payment methods

 

Unfortunately they are faced with the fact that the USPS insurance is only for domestic mail, and commercial insurance for international mail costs them the arm and leg that they want replaced.
