Hi everyone, Im new to this site and was looking for some insight on an 1966 error quarter i have. This is my first ever post about coins so i appreciate your help. This quarter seems to have an error in the lettering. The "IN" seems to be missimg completely from "In god we trust" and the "Tr" in Trust is messed up as well. Is this possibly a coin of some value? The errors in the lettering, is this common on coins? Thank you again for your patience and any help.
It just appears to be worn off, it's not that it's completely missing , it's just worn off over the years. I could be wrind but that just what appears to be going in to me.
It looks like a filled die error. Material, usually grease and other particles, gets stuck in the letters and other parts of the design causing the weak or missing areas on the struck coin. Your coin is interesting and is a mint error, but probably isn't worth more than face value to 50 cents (if you get lucky and can find someone who wants to buy it). That being said, I would still save it if I got it in change.
Thank you all. Its fun learning about everything and feels almost like a treasure hunt going through my coins as I get them now.
Nice to see others following the same fun path we have all traveled together at one point or another and who have taken the next logical step to find and join an excellent forum, this one being one of the best. I also include CCF in that category, but that is where I got started, so I may be slightly biased!
Welcome to CT @Alwayschooselove1. We love good photos, and your photo is good, but we like to see both sides of coins and then close ups of any parts you have specific questions about. It helps members better evaluate what you have. Keep up the search.
This thread is nearly 2 years old and the OP was last on CT in March of 2019. Hopefully, she will respond to the recent posts.
I usually check the date of a post first thing, but reading so many at a time, I missed or forgot by the time I posted. I hope the OP is still with us. Thanks for the heads up.
