been reading forum for a while now and thought i would finally jump in considering what i have learned in the past few weeks , anyway the ques. is would a morgan dollar graded in 1985 hold that same value today ?? thanks for the help in advance
Howdy GrimReaper - Welcome to the Forum !! Well that would depend entirely on if it was graded correctly in 1985. Back then - ANACS & ACG were the only games in town for 3rd party graders. And I think ACG was the only one using a slab - ANACS used a certificate. Was this coin graded by one of them or was it graded by you or a dealer ? Who graded the coin ? If you can post a quality pic, I'll be happy to provide my estimation of the grade.
thanks for the welcome , i think the co. or group if you will was NGIif i remember correctly, i'll check it to make sure though . it is in a plastic holder stapled to a photo of the obv & rev with a seal stamped on the actual photo itself and grade is MS65/65. I'll try to scan it tom. and post a pic. for you to look at if i can figure out how to get it in here.
NGI would be a new one on me - but anything is possible. But the way you describe it certainly fits with the old grade certificates. If you have a problem with the pic - just email it to me and I'll post it for you gdjmsp@qwest.net

The Morgan guys may disagree with me, but that hit on the cheek detracts too much from the eye appeal to justify anything above MS60 IMHO. Conder101 may be able to comment on NCI, which I have never run accross before.
1881-s-Mint Surface preservation: Obverse: Fields show lot of bagmark chatter (photo may exaggerate these??), mark on cheek Reverse: Looks nice and clean in the primary areas Strike: Obverse/Reverse are average Lustre: Looks good (considering the photo quality) Eye-Appeal: Average (again photo not the best for determining this) I'd say a MS-63 Worth: $40+- MS64= $70 MS65= $120 Note: I have a NGC MS64 from which I made my comparsions to this coin.
thanks alot for info guys , would this morgan and 3 more lust like be worth sending back in to be regraded or not , also i have a 1883-s it has been circulated but it is pretty nice i'll try to get a pic up later of it , and thanks again
It will cost you about $20/coin (Grading Service Fee,Shipping,etc) to get them graded by NGC or PCGS a little less by ANACS. You can do the math for yourself and determine if it is worth it to you, but I would only send them in if I was real confident in a MS64 or 65 grade. That said I personally like to have my MS grade Morgans in graded slabs (NGC & PCGS)! The 1883 -S circulated Morgan value can range from $20 (Very Fine) to $150 (AU - Almost Uncirculated), again as you can see grading could makes a significant difference in value.
I would grade the coin as MS63. NCI is mentioned in Conder101's book and I believe this example is what he lists as NCI 2. The company apparently operated from late 1984 through 1989. Personally, I would not spend the money to have the coin re-graded.
