To my thinking counter stamped tokens with initials usually indicate a new owner. When the laws changed and called pinball machines gambling the value was often removed or crossed off with an x. Some previous 5c tokens had the centers punched out to removed the vales. Shop keepers continued to pay out jackpots so the new law did nothing to combat gambling.
Back in the day a number without the cent sign or the words plays, loaves, cigars, etc. was assumed to be cents. Five dollars would show as 5 00 with the zeros usually underlined. With the c where it lays I would think it either stands for the new owners initial or that the token was cancelled and would no longer be redeemed. They also used x for that purpose. Some collectors try to get both varieties - before and after cancellation - and display them side by side.
I don't usually buy this type of thing but liked the look of this one. I think it is a Monte Carlo Sports Club casino chip. Bakelite (?) with silver(?) inlay.
@Circus , I saw(online) an old token advertising asbestos roofing materials. I think the token may have been made of it. Is this something you’ve come across?
This one and the following one are for the same location blank obverse the building and address is still there it now is sport goods shop. aluminum blank obverse brass Location is in Traverse City Michigan
Seen more of the cardboard materials and some celluloid ones. But it wouldn't surprise me. If they thought it would give them an advantage in selling the material. The customer if so inclined would be able to test the material. Just remember the asbestos material is now considered hazardous to your health. Even thou most of what one cones across today in floor tile, siding, roofing ect you would have to eat. Other than damaged pipe and boiler covering. I have had 8 hours a year asbestos abatement training for the last 15 years I worked.
This next grouping came from the Henry Ford museum, or as it is now called The Ford. This one is the Fords prayer, it is a take off on the Lords prayer
