Just going thru and cataloging ye old stuff.. and I ran across this lil coin. I know this is a rare date, but in its condition.. does this ruin the value?

    2 Questions.
    --------
    1. What would you grade this?
    2. What would you set its value at?

VG-8 details severely corroded, net FR-2 or maybe AG-3

I was afraid of that, but it's nice to have this date no matter what. What do you think it's worth?

    $50 as a shallow N variety, $25 as a bold N variety. Probably bold N, but I really don't know.

  7. haha WOW I have one 1891 that looks just like that, but maybe worse. When I found it I asked what had happened to it... "Oh i just cleaned it with some bleach, no big deal!"

    Wow, yeah that'll do it!

So any other opinions on the value to this coin?

One Cent---say's so on the back!

No really I would not know how to put a price on it, it has a lot of issues and would only be sold as a hole filler. But it is worth as much as you can get someone to buy it. maybe $20??

How about the fact that it is an 1874, not an 1871?

Yep - I agree it is an 1874. Not sure how to put a price on this puppy - a few bucks maybe.

I would grade F-2. With corrosion. The Greysheet lists Good as $70. I would save my money and pass on the coin and use the money saved to buy at least a G4. I don't believe in hole fillers. The money saved can be used on a better grade.

Oops, sorry as a 1874 in Good it's $11.50. Definitely about a $2 coin, but you might as well keep it, if you already own it.

Corrosion or not, I cant see a single letter in LIBERTY. Not more than ag in my opinion.

1871 is much more expensive, and the details are way better than F-2, the corrosion just obscures a lot.

Wow, maybe I was wanting it to be the 71.. lol. Thanks for helping me with this one. I think I've got just the flip for it. :) Even though it's not the best thing in the world I've had a lot of fun with this one.. I suppose that's what its all about eh?

    Well, if it's a 1874, yeah I agree with $2.50. I didn't look very closely.

look at the coin again, isn't the vertical line for the last # in the date to close to the 7 to be a 4?

I will try to take a better picture later tonight, It's so close to tell it may be a wash... maybe I could find a picture of the 74 and 71 and put them ontop of eachother to see what matches.

    Couldn't find a good 1874 pic..

I used a morphing program to see if they overlapped right.. and they do.. I couldn't figure out how to share the morphing movie.. it was like 50mb.. so a neat program.. but not worth the trouble.

Anyway, I am pretty convinced.. but I think I'd have to get it graded to have peace.. and I don't think it'd really be worth it.

First look at the top - you notice the that yours has a / for the left side. On the one the left side curls down like a comma. Then look at the middle - you see the horizontal line of the one. Lol I am not sure if I could see it in person.

I tried drawing what I see, but an "artiste" I am not. :)
