It's terrible to possess something and not know it's true worth. I am oping that the Gold experts will enlighten me as to what I have and give me an idea of the proper path to take in regards to this type set. i am not looking to sell this set, but I am old and want to leave them for my kids. I would like to have an estimate of what the set is worth for inclusion in my will. I am sorry that I can't provide better pictures, but as I mentioned I am old and not steady any more. i certainly do not want to remove them from the holder for fear of dropping one. I think the coins are; 1852-$1.00 Princess, 1854-$1.00 Liberty, 1908 $2.50, 1854-$3.00, 1843-$5.00, 1894-S-$10.00 & 1900-$20.00.
Absolutely stunning set. Without having them in hand understand these are off the cuff generic estimates that should be close enough for legal work. You will want to revisit this if the spot gold market does something crazy which is not unheard of in an election season. Double Eagle.... $1600.00 Eagle................$700.00 Half Eagle..........$450.00 Three Dollar Princess... $800.00-$1000.00 Quarter Eagle.....$275.00 Either Dollar........$180.00-$220.00
Just curious, without better photos, as to what grade you would place these in ? Would they be more valuable if they were graded ? Would you send the whole set in holder or individual coins to TPG ?
If it were me I would consider having the three dollar princess sent in. The other pieces won't realize any benefit unless they are spectacular MS specimens.
I agree with Randy. Gold coins (for better or for worse?); Aren’t my thing either. But right now, people MAY pay a little more for Double Gold Eagles? They’re pretty hot right now. I guess that’s good news ?
