Oh c/mon, tell the truth, you switched the holders on the 80/79 S's right? J/K, a perfect example of grading inconsistancies
I know that toned coins are becoming a thing lately but myself, I'd clean them all. I don't like toned coins, never have, never will. AT or NT, I'd clean them off.
Clean them off!? Yikes...how would you go about cleaning them? For coins that are unattractively toned I could understand, but...
unless your images are badly inaccurate then the blue color in the coins isn't what natural toning ever looks like.
One clue that a coin may have artificial toning is when all the toned coins offered by an eBay seller look alike. Take a look at this seller's coins. Do you notice a pattern? http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZbgraham1234
EEEK! Please don't do that. Just sell them all to me, I will buy them! I just don't understand how you could not like these coins.
Hobo, I was going to post that sellers auctions on here because I wanted to know if my hunch was right that this seller was selling artificial toned coins. You answered the question before I could ask it!
But what does she look like in the morning without her makeup? What's her state of preservation? That's the reason many of us still don't accept toning as a grading factor. We can easily accept it as a market factor. Looks sell. But beyond that, it's frivolity, superficial. And sometimes, it even masks or disguises or hides or distracts from the true state of preservation, or true grade.
