ok this is a 1954 s penny that I found. It seems to me that there is a double S on it. You can clearly see the top has to parts and where it begins to curve from the back to front there is a second line and at the bottom tip there appears to be a second on just not as pronounced as the top. Take a look at a pics a let me know what you think. I am pretty convinced that this is a double S and not a die chip or strike doubling. Any one have any idea what this would be worth?
it sure looks like this 1954-1mm-004 listed on coppercoins. check the identifiers to be sure. Nice find! http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1954&die_id=1954s1mm004&die_state=mds Richard
Thanks Hey, I really appreciate the help. I completely forgot about coppercoins. I will have to check the identifiers and see if this is what I have.....Thanks again....GO COWBOYS!!!......LOL....
GO cowboys!...go cowboys? as a Pats fan I am terribly offended. I don't have to take this i'm leavin... oh forget it
This looks like a 54S RPM-004...CONECA Top 100, nice find. Now you need to see which stage it is using the markers in the CONECA listings. I think this is the fun part of die variety collecting...good luck. http://www.conecaonline.org/content/lincolnrpms19541955.html Larry Nienaber
nice!! i am horrible at finding double anything on coins lol but with this MM, i think it is the first time i can CLEARLY see the split serrifs very cool :thumb:
I will post a pic of the whole coin tonight if I get a chance. I have about 3 rolls of 1954 s pennies. Last night I pulled about 6 coins out and found another variety. I found a 1954s-1mm-10 on the coppercoins site. These 3 rolls that I have, seem to have a lot of chips and cracks on them. I even found one where the date and mint mark is so full of cracks that it looks light lighting bolts are going across them. I quickly went through a few more and it seems I might have a few extra varieties at first look. I will put them under the microscope and post what I find.
