I bought this coin off eBay. The seller listed it as one error, I saw it as another. The coin is raw. The third side, which there is no picture, is smooth without a hint of reeding. Let's see how many of you agree with the seller or moi. There is no poll. I know disappointing. Post your guess with some reasoning why. Like guess the grade, I'll let you know at the end which way the both of us thought. Pics are the best I could do. Should be enough to see what is going on.
Broadstruck ... because maybe it was struck with no collar ? info ==> http://www.error-ref.com/?s=uncentered+broadstrike
One of you probably called it a broadstrike, one of you probably called it an off-center strike. A broadstrike is any coin struck outside of the collar. These could be centered, uncentered, or off centered. The thing is, off-center strikes are broadstrikes. It is impossible to get an off-center in the collar. Because part of the design is missing, this is an off-center strike.
For an off-center or broadstrike like the coins shown here, the radiating lines are caused by stress in the metal as it is squished out during strike. This coin has expanded far more than it normally would, and so everything is going to look a bit more stretched than it otherwise would.
The seller listed it as an Off-Center Strike. I disagreed. I know part of the E in dime is missing and technically maybe Off-Center is correct. I went with Uncentered-Broadstrike. Perfect, a short education lesson on striking errors. Thanks for participating.
