HI ALL, I WAS A VERY BUSY BOY ON FRIDAY. WHILE MOST OF YOU THOUGHT IT WAS "JUST ANOTHER DAY", FOR ME IT WAS A POST OFFICE ROAD TRIP! 08/08/08 ALL YOU NEEDED WAS THE RIGHT BILLS FOR THE OCCAISION..... I THINK I COVERED THAT BASE! AND THE BACKS: i also made a semi complete set of the $5.00 prosperity sheets, missing the tough H/D BLOCK, THE H/F (all sold in china) & H/G (also all sold in china) BUT I'LL JUST SHOW YOU ONE, IF ANY REQUESTS TO SEE EM ALL ARE SEEN, I'LL POST THE REST! HERE IS HTE 8TH BLOCK, THE H/H SHEET: THESE ARE JUST THE CREAM OF THE CROP!, THE TOP NOTE WAS OBVIOUSLY THE COSTLIEST TO OBTAIN, AN 08080808 ON THE 8TH DISTRICT? HAD TO HAVE IT! OPINIONS?? ENJOY! LEW
I like the notes, but not sure i like the stampings and postal stamps. If anything, i think it kinda ruins the notes IMHO
Hi Mike, That's What I Told My Wife, 1/2 The Crowd Will Think I Ruined $2,000.00 Worth Of Currency, Those Who Collect This Type Of Stuff Will Probablly Feel As I Do, I Love Them And Was Glad To Make The Trips To 4 Different North Carolina Towns To Have It Done! The Sheets Are The Only Uncut Sheets I Have Seen With Any Postmarks, Let Alone 4 Different Towns! Each Stamp Total Is Also Either .80 Cents Or .88 Cents, With The Exception Of The "newton" Postmarks, Some Of Those Only Have The Needed .42 Cents As It Was The Last Post Office I Visited And Was Getting Tired! Let's See How The Crowd Here Goes..... Lew
Yeah, I think someone slipped something into the OPs drink, what has been done here is the equivalent of cleaning a coin or drilling a hole in it, all in one. Except these were not some common date Mercury Dimes, the $1s and $5s were very rare. Thats see here, a mint CU 1981 08080808 note with modern stamps and 2008 postal marks. I could kind of understand if this were done in 1988, that would have been more fitting and contemporary. Next we have some $2s, what ever floats your boat on those I suppose. Lastly we have some $5 1995 H-H notes, there were what, less than 9,000 of these printed? These nifty notes are now adorned with Mowgli, his bear friend, an old chair and a dragonfly just to name a few. To summarize, just like with putting a hole in a coin, I estimate that these notes have lost 75% of their value, if not more because their designs are covered up in places. I would have expected to see this kind of arts and crafts project bragged about on the www.wheresgeorge.com forums, what with someone boasting about getting a "hit" from a dismayed collector who found a "wheresgeorge" stamped nearly CU 1988 $5 with 7 six's in the serial number and all, but on here I was a little surprised. Well, anyways enjoy your newly reinvigorated notes, I'm sure that the future generations who will(or would have) eventually own them will applaud your hard efforts for this endeavor and will enjoy looking at Mowgli and his bear friend.
OUCH! obviously a coin-based collector, given the descriptions and comparisons, maybe clembo's signature should be heeded here:whistle: I can understand if this type of collecting is outside your imaginary/creativity zone, but "Where'sgeorge"? I feel like a kicked puppy!:hammer: Fortunately it's only an opinion...... we ALL know how that can be....... if I were a newbie, my feelings might be hurt, try to keep that in mind when posting replies  I know two things: 1 - I am, most likely, the only guy on the planet (6+Billion) who owns an 08080808 super-repeater........ on the 8th district, postmarked on 08/08/08 with 80.cents postage. 2 - Knowing that Asia finds the 8 to be the lucky number of choice, I am sure one of the 1+billion people there MIGHT just find this combo a bit appealing. However, since this was created for my own collection and tastes............. and I AM HAPPY, that is the important factor. It's easy to appreciate rarity, appreciating creativity..... that is the hard part:secret:
Like it Lew - You have created a neat rarity that to the right collector will have much more value than just the original notes. As you and I both know there is a sub-group of note collectors that collect notes such as these. Thanks for sharing - it must have been an interesting experience at the post offices. I think it was a great idea... BTW: Did any of the employees have anything interesting to say that you can add to this story? Best Regards ~ Darryl
How about Cinderella, do you like her more?? You know, I got to thinking...... maybe NOS just hates the bear and his Jungle Book friend?? So I figure maybe Cinderella might make it easier to look at on a more personal note...... I was not a HUGE fan of the bug stamp either, but the postage total was important so......... you give a little
ROFL - my 3 year old daughter would just love the princess stamp - she might even go so far as to cut it out... That's the great thing about this hobby - Some like white shinny coins, some like toned, some like turn of the century notes, some like collectible numbers, some like barber series coins some like Morgans, some people collect forgeries of any type. There is something for everyone and it's great to have the opportunity to see it all here!
