I know there has been some news that bills are being pushed (or have been) to create a series of quarters depicting the national parks. I haven't been following it that closely...so I was wondering if there was any official word on it yet, or is it just still speculation and waiting? I'm not completely convinced that another "collectible" coin series is a good idea, but I'd imagine that it'll probably happen. One thought I had though is, how many state quarters depicted a national park? I know that Oregon does, and I haven't really looked back...but I imagine others do as well. So, the two programs may have a little overlap.

Well, the Arizona state quarter features the Grand Canyon, which is "largely contained in the Grand Canyon National Park".
The states decided what was to be there states quarter design. If the NP program passes I wouldn't think the states would have a say as to what NP image would be placed on a coin.
This reminds me of the USPS. In the 1930's through the 1950's, they issued tons of varieties of stamps (national parks come to mind). They were mainly 3, 4 and 5 cent denominations. To this day, they still aren't worth face value. You can go to certain web sites and buy $100 face value of these stamps for $95 (or whatever) and then use them as postage. I, too, am waiting for Disney characters to show up on our nickels.......
Too true Pocket Change. We buy stamps at work all too often for under face value then use them. The last "forever" stamps I bought I paid $7.50 per book. Current Post Office price is $8.40. I work 2 buildings away from the post office. Guess where I buy my stamps? The mint is going "postal". As in "postal stupid". Waiting for my 20 cent quarters to start popping up. clembo
It is, but its controlled by the National Park Service. So, I don't think it counts as a national park...but it's sort of related.

No, I was talking about uncancelled. This is basically the way stamps are "melted down"!!! Most important rule in collecting: "Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's worth the sweat to carry it home." PocketChange is telling you straight Ericl. Although some stamps carry a premium uncancelled tons are bought under face value and used.
People spend state quarters.They will spend the territorials and nat park ones. How many post-2003 nickels have you seen recently?
About 12 since 2002. Oh, you said POST-2003. Make it 10 since 2003. And at least 4 of those are recent. Within the past four months.
