Hey guys , whats your opinion about this Phili mint coin? 1932 is the most commun year and I paid about 800 Dollar for it. I think that it is in mint state condition, but I find the 10 Dollar Indians very hard to grade. I have the option to return the coin, but the price is fair and its probably a good compromise between gold investment and collector coin. Here's a video as well
I think she's purdy. I don't own any American gold and don't know the grading criteria for them. I did a quick ebay sold listings and $800 seems like a fair price on your end.
Thanks for including the video so I can see how the luster behaves. I see absolutely nothing on this coin that indicates wear (no discoloration, no flattening, no dulled luster). In my opinion, that coin appears to be UNC. There is, however, quite a bit of marks on her face. That's going to hurt the grade. I'd call it MS-62. It is an attractive coin. At $800, that's exactly the right price for that grade.
I think the numerous dings and scratches on the obverse results in a grade of MS-60 or MS 61. But, a great deal at $700.00, since the gold content is currently around $750.00!
OP paid $800. When was the gold recall, 1933? It has some nicks and minor scratches but gold scratches easily and shows them. I think low MS is right. I assume this is real gold. I honestly can't tell anymore.
I would say it might make it into an MS-63 holder on a good day. Over the years the grading serves have given the 1926 and 1932 ealges "easy grades." These coins, which are the most common dates in the series, were often marketed to "investor - fish" who didn't know what they were buying. Therefore the grades got pushed for sales purposes.
