USPS tracking says package was delivered to my mailbox, but it wasn't.

What you need to understand is that before a post/s can be edited, one of 2 things has to happen - a mod has to see it himself, or the post/s has to be reported thus bringing it to the attention of a mod. If neither of those happens, then rather obviously no editing can be done.

As it happens, in this case, no mod saw the post/s, and the posts were not reported until about 40 minutes before they were edited. That's the only reason there was any delay.

Agreed, some people are fast on the negative feedback and that is why I posted an alternative action.

  4. Any update from the OP @calcol about the status of the delivery or lack there of?

Unfortunately, it would probably not be able to be used if any litigation arose from the package actually not being found where the delivery person claimed to have left it. It is easy enough to lay a package down, take a photo of it, pick it back up, and take it home with you (or drop it off with a "friend"). It could be argued that the photo is simply hearsay and should not be admissible.

On the other hand, it is possible that your particular carrier has had complaints lodged against him and he is taking photos to appease his supervisors.

In any case, I'm sure he has a good reason.

Over the holidays I received some emailed delivery notices that included a picture of the package on our distinctive front porch. But I received more delivery notices that did not include the photo.

I've been traveling and haven't signed on for a while. But no joy: no package delivery and no positive responses from USPS. Fortunately, it was only worth about $25. One lesson is that in the future, for more valuable packages. I'll insist on and pay for signed receipt delivery.

Thanks for the update. Signature confirmation is the way to go on valuable coins.

UPS: Your package will be delivered by Fred at 3:33. He just got a new haircut and he’ll be wearing sunglasses.

Fedex: You’ll get it whenever you get it.

    USPS: What package?

    :)
