Hi Lowle: I'm sorry but I don't own any references for California. Pritchard's is just for Colorado tokens. It's a nice looking token.
@Circus Very very cool American token. It blew my mind to see people selling their own Eagle Scout and God and Country medals online. I got mine the old fashioned way, I earned it.
@Circus forgive my crappy pictures. One day I'll buy a "camera" instead of a phone that generates a boolean algebra rendition of what is in front of it!
Pretty much my favorite Transit Token. New Hampshire Public Works and Highways NH720C (this the 4th revision NH720D)."Man of the Mountain" since collapsed and the token is obsolete and replaced by e-token.
On the reverse of this medal you'll see the name A. Slabaugh. That would be Arlie Slabaugh a writer and associate editor for Numismatic Scrapbook. He also wrote numerous articles for the TAMS journal and was a TAMS president. He was inducted into the Chicago Coin Club Hall of Fame and worked for the Franklin Mint from 1967-1985. Best of all Arlie was an Exo collector. Chicago Coin Club, brass, M/A, 34mm, 12.6 grams
from John M. Coffee, Jr. The Atwood-Coffee Catalogue of US and Canadian Transportation Tokens Fifth Edition:
You never know what will turn up in a bulk buy. Not having payed much attention to politics of my state Mich in the 70's let alone others, I didn't know his wife was also governor.
I still have an original M1903, my dad gave it to me a long time ago. It is safely stored in the states. Think he paid about $40 for it from Monkey Wards in about 1956. I used to collect guns. Now I live in another country and have no 2nd amendment rights here, so coins it is.
They currently go for $1,600/$1,800 at the local range/gun shop. and they don't stay on the wall long.
Love that token! I'm not so sure that's a counter stamp, it may just be damaged...usually counter stamps have to do with revaluation or advertising. If I remember...I'll post some of my counter stamped tokens.
