I’d call it au 55. The wear in the knee and the multitude of small marks tell me it spent some time in circulation
Definitely an AU coin. There are a number of contacts marks all over the coin along with signs of a small amount of wear.
A few areas the OP might want to focus on, help determine the grade. Also, in terms of the fields, Note the differences between these distinct areas: Compare the Black area to the Blue area, go back to the images you originally posted, do you see the difference? This is just one example area. The color change, luster change, etc, should help you identify the wear. Focus on the area of transition between the Black and Blue border in your original images, I think you will see what I am saying.
Thank you very much for this awsome posting! I totaly agree with you . At first I tought this could be MS 62/63, but after comparing to real MS coins I came to an au as well. At least with these pirctures. I asked politly for further photos, but I got no answer
Okay, well maybe Luster was on overreach. Implied luster in the protected areas highlighted by the shift in color and texture. But if you are not seeing the color change, the large areas of clearly stripped and worn from light circulation, it may not be your eyes. It may be your monitor. I have a very large color calibrated professional monitor. To me, the OP's photos show a clear color change between my example areas. So maybe check your eyes AND your monitor. Let me try again, see if this helps. (keep in mind, go back to the original blown up photos). BOX1 has clear, obvious wear, stripped luster, specific lighter color, uneven texture. BOX2 transitional area. See the speckling, lighter and darkers shades of gold? BOX3 now we are into a protected area, less obvious wear. Less speckling. Color change vs Box1. (Ignore the LI in the Legend, I'm describing the fields). Less black smudgy marks, for example compared to the area around the Rays. Sort of average the color in each boxed in area. Can you see how average color of box 1 is clearly different than Box3? This is just one area of the coin I am using as an example. Now look at the broader coin, do you see areas where the color of gold changes, where the bulk of the wear is? In terms of Luster, look at the Stars. Check out maybe the "BE" in Liberty. Seems to be Luster there, correct? Now compare the Luster/Look/Color of the stars, to say the center of the fields above the rays. Even though the overall photo here is muted, I think you can pick up hints of luster and compare them to areas that are totally devoid of the signs. I hope I am making sense, and not sounding like a stark raving lunatic from Maine.
Wear will always show as a worn spot. Bag marks may show wear but on this coin they do not. They are clear. Look at the op's coin. There are numerous places on both sides that have sharp (no wear) cuts or scrapes on the coin. There is wear on Lady Liberty's hand on the torch and the top of the torch under the flame has 2 small rings that are almost one from wear. Compare that to the cuts and dings on Lady Liberty herself and it's easily seen on the rays and the field on the right of Lady Liberty. They are sharper. I'm not going into detail as that's too difficult in writing but I hope what I said helps you.
